What are developmental milestones? ❖ Developmental milestones are skills or behaviors we expect to observe in children at each age as they continue to grow. ❖ Recognizing whether or not these milestones are being consistently achieved by the child at each stage is important for their developmental health and projection (Developmental Milestones).
Physical Domain ❖ In early childhood ages 3 -6, children should be able to carry out physical actions such as: ➢ Catch a ball ➢ Attains better balance ■ May begin to ride a bicycle, rides tricycle easily ➢ Able to draw simple shapes such as circles and squares ➢ Hop on one foot (Developmental Milestones)
Cognitive Domain ❖ In early childhood ages 3 -6, children should be exhibiting specific cognitive attributes such as: ➢ ➢ ➢ Preferring or enjoying to do things independently/without assistance Comprehends concept of time Comprehends concept of size Able to remember parts of stories Understand the idea of counting (Developmental Milestones)
Social and Emotional Domain ❖ In early childhood ages 3 -6, children should be demonstrating specific social and emotional characteristics such as: ➢ Plays make believe games i. e. “mom and dad” ➢ Wants to play with others rather than alone ➢ Able to discern between real and make believe ➢ Able to get along with other children (Important Milestones)
Conclusion ❖ As I stated in my first slide, it is important to child development for these milestones to be met ❖ If the majority of the milestones aren’t being met, intervention may be an appropriate step which could include things such as speech therapy or counseling ❖ Staying informed is the number one things for parents to do when it comes to raising children, this may help to ensure successful long term development (Important Milestones)
