For initial counseling sessions, inquire about how your subordinate is feeling before beginning the semester. Touch upon his/goals and make note of what it is he/she wishes to gain from their experiences. Set the tone by establishing expectations early on and ensure that you gain as much background information concerning your subordinates as possible. For midterm counseling sessions, obtain a status report on your subordinates; are they accomplishing what they have set out for? Are his/her needs being met? What is their performance, and how do they feel that YOU have performed as their assigned leader? • How are you feeling? • What are your goals for this year? Academically? Physically? In regards to the Corps of Cadets? • Where are you from? • Family? • My expectations for yourself… • Your expectations of myself, as your assigned leader? • You indicated that you are worried about your Calculus course heading into this semester. Make a point to stop by the AAC and schedule tutoring early on. There is always peer tutoring in U 128 on Mon-Thurs evenings (peer tutoring). • You also indicated that you are having trouble passing your NUPFT. Here are some resources for you to utilize so that you can begin thinking about what to target so that you can obtain a passing score. Lets meet to go over how your diet is looking as well as see if we can customize a fitness and eating plan that works best for YOU. • I have a profound interest in your personal success as not only a student, but also as a young professional in the NUCC and someone who wishes to grow in their own leadership. I will monitor your performance and seek to aid in your progression towards where you wish to end up academically, physically, as well as in the Corps of Cadets. • You continue to set a positive example for your peers and subordinates. As a leader in this unit you clearly have set a professional climate. I am glad to see that Calculus is not as stressful for you as you initially thought and I and also very please with your 260 average on the NUPFT! 24

For initial counseling sessions, develop a plan of action (PAO) based upon the information

For initial counseling sessions, develop a plan of action (PAO) based upon the information that your subordinates have given you. Again, meeting the needs of your people is your top priority. The POA should ultimately support the information given/recorded in the key points section. For midterm counseling sessions, assess how the POA that you have implemented is fairing. Are your subordinate’s needs being met? Is there performance come time for midterms up to snuff? • How are you feeling? • What are your goals for this year? Academically? Physically? In regards to the Corps of Cadets? • Where are you from? • Family? • My expectations for yourself… • Your expectations of myself, as your assigned leader? • You indicated that you are worried about your Calculus course heading into this semester. For initial counseling sessions, directly indicate how YOU, as the leader, will meet the needs of your subordinates. Make a clear statement that identifies your responsibilities of ensuring that you and your subordinates experience growth with one another. For midterm counseling sessions, assess if you have fulfilled your leader responsibilities to your subordinate(s). For initial counseling sessions, what is your assessment of your subordinate? Is he/she accomplishing what they set out to do? Are they feeling emotionally fit and well, overall? For midterm counseling, the same rationale applies! How is your subordinate doing? • How are you feeling? • What are your goals for this year? Academically? Physically? In regards to the Corps of Cadets? • Where are you from? • Family? • My expectations for yourself… • Your expectations of myself, as your assigned leader? • You indicated that you are worried about your Calculus course heading into this semester.
