FIR, Network of Excellence) (www. eurofir. net) 2005 -2010 aims to develop and integrate food composition database through Europe including CEE countries. • Part of this was to establish collaboration in research, training and education with other actors and national compilers in Europe and CEE countries CD is essential

Background-Euro. FIR-IMR-NCDNCEE Capacity development (CD) in Food Composition Database (FCDB) is a long-term, continuous process, which focuses on national priorities, plans, policies and processes. 2006 - Institute for Medical Research ( IMR) became a partner in No. E FP 6 Euro FIR project (www. eurofir. net) (2006 -2010) Achievement in FCDB capacity development in Serbia as the partner in Euro. FIR • IMR research team developed the tool: Food Comp Data Management (FCDM) - web based software for creation new harmonized FCDB according to technical annex, Euro. FIR standards and recommendations. • Created the first online Serbian FCDB harmonized with Euro. FIR recommendations • Langual food indexing 1046 foods • Training –education at food comp courses

FIR-Nexus together with IMR &NCDNCEE initiated a Balkan platform - with aim to develop a first Regional FCDB for West Balkan Countries (WBC) using a web based application Food Comp Data Management (FCDM) for creating a FCDB. • Develop and sign Mo. Us with Balkan and CEE countries • Identify FCDB status /prioritise training needs • Development of a regional FCDB requires involvement of many compilers from different countries and is a long and continuous process.

Conclusions • Regional FCDB containing data relevant to this population is important in order to provide Balkan researchers and policy makers with populationspecific FCDB. • Food Comp Data Management (FCDM) tool was proved to be a useful for the initiation of new FCDB and important for creation of a Regional Food Composition data base harmonized with Euro. FIR • The development of the Regional Food Composition data base is a concrete result of collaboration between EU funded project Euro. FIRNexus and NCDNCEE network. • This activity is important in communication, data exchange between different countries and for integration of any new food data in the future.
