Developing Audience: A Brief History of Jib. Jab (really, really) This Land: Originally uploaded in 2004, the video went (and perhaps defined) viral, with over 1 million hits in 24 hours. See The Atlantic. Time for Some Campaignin’: Released in 2008. This video follows Jib. Jab’s 2007 implantation of technology allowing personal, uploaded headshots to be included in videos. See Mashable. He’s Barack Obama: Debuted in 2009, in front of then-President Barack Obama at the annual black tie Radio and Television Correspondents dinner. See Washington Note. CNR (Weird Al video): Also in 2009, Jib. Jab produces CNR for Weird Al, and includes the ability for members of the site to upload their own face to attach to characters in it. See Rolling Stone. The site today has very few references to these (and other) events that, in essence, created today’s audience.
