Why Keep Records? To record what you did…. • • • Your project goals. Action you took on your goals. Did I meet my goals? (evaluate) Did I help other people? (Citizenship) Leadership assumed. Awards, trips, scholarships.
Getting Started… Complete Project Record Sheets Collect and organize 4 -H pictures Get a Record Book cover Get subject dividers Pick a photo of yourself Outline your 4 -H story To ensure fairness in judging, everyone must compile the book in the same format.

4 -H Citizenship/Community Service Definitions: “Citizenship” is having a concern about something that affects your community, and doing something about it. “Community Service” is doing something, as an individual or as a group, to help your community (i. e. , school, church, neighborhood, town, etc. ).

Section 2 4 -H Story • One side of paper only. • No more than 3 pages long. • Begin by introducing yourself. • Double check spelling and grammar. Think of it as though you’re talking to someone about what you did in 4 -H this year.

Section 3 General 4 -H Pictures • Pictures of you involved in 4 -H: – Doing project work – Citizenship activity – In a leadership role – Receiving an award • On one side of the page. • No more than 3 pages of pictures. • Attach securely. Me and my 4 -H dog project • Briefly explain each picture with a caption.
Section 4 (Name of Project) Records • Use a divider for each Project • Complete and insert record sheet for that project. • Do not write a separate story, unless called for in project. • Insert project photo’s directly after record sheet (label photo’s with brief caption).
Section 5 Correspondence, Special Activities, News Clippings • It’s not necessary to have all of these, but you should have at least one. • Letters from Agents, Leaders, other adults. • Event programs. • Newsletter/news paper clippings showing your name, highlighted in red. • Certificates from 4 -H, school, church, etc. • DO NOT INCLUDE RIBBONS, MEDALS, ETC.
A 4 -H Record Book Should Be: • Neat • Complete as possible • Accurate • Report only current year activities • Report only most important activities • Completed by Member • Compiled in the required format.
