Before we get started, think about a virtual live training you have attended. What did the facilitator do well? Please submit your responses to: Poll. Ev. com/debraenloe 517 OR Send a text to 22333 and enter DEBRAENLOE 517

What questions must you answer when considering this approach? How many people? Where are they logistically located? Are their multiple time zones? What are the training objectives?
Could you deliver the training Face to Face and virtually simultaneously?
What would you need to modify to make this effective for all participants?
What tools would your virtual participants need?
What tools would you need?
Deb’s Reality at the time… • Generally course is conducted in a computer lab • No producer/facilitator available • Varying technology skill levels of participants • Virtual participants do not always have a quiet area • Course length generally longer
What should participants know? • Toggle between screens or have access to two devices • Have a headset or access to a speaker • Log in 5 -10 minutes early • What to expect • How to ask a question
How does it work? • Ask participants in lab for help • Different options based on meeting tool used • Trouble Shooting • Asking Questions • Know your audience • Know if particants have access to using the platform or if a download is required
Have you facilitated training In-Person and Virtual at the same time? Please submit your responses to: Poll. Ev. com/debraenloe 517 OR Send a text to 22333 and enter DEBRAENLOE 517
Different Virtual Approach…. Participants at their Site w/Facilitator Centrally Located Team
Our Fall Training Requirements… • Train approximately 3, 200 classroom teachers on two new technology platforms • Staff want to be trained at their site (68 sites) • Unified message to everyone • Staff want their learning to be differentiated • Approximate hours of content: 6. 5 • Days available for training: 4 • Training Staff Resources: 9 • Both systems were finalizing development during training. . .
Timeline…. Techs Return, Pilot Facilitators Trained Pilot Training Teachers Return Facilitators Trained, Evaluation/PD System Live Training Student Data System Live, Students Return AUGUST
How did we do it? • Centrally Broadcast Training • 5 Central Staff Available • Developed training modules to cover the technology content • AM Session Pre-Recorded Entire Presentation • PM Session Pre-Recorded Segments & Engaged Live • Pilot Training • Secured 30 On-Site Facilitators • Secured Building Technicians
Icons/Tools Used # Minutes = Time allocated for Discussion, (Countdown will be displayed on screen) Hear Ukulele Sound = 30 seconds remaining
How did we do it? • We tried to have fun! • Incorporated a Myth Busters section • On-Site Facilitators used chat feature • Centrally shared back responses • Turned our camera on occasionally
The good, the bad & the ugly….
What would we do differently?
What would I consider now? • Flipped Classroom • Based on employee agreements, can information be delivered effectively in small bites just-in-time • Reporting Managers need to be engaged for accountability • The Day in the Life should have had deeper analysis both from a system design and training design perspective - Ex: One “win” for teachers with the custom system was to support Parent/Teacher conferences with information in one location. A 360 view of the student. However, some teachers were not proficient with navigating or typing and resulted in an unexpected barrier.
