Designer Humans By Elly Tronson Main Point I
Designer Humans By: Elly Tronson
Main Point I think the main point that the author of this story is trying to get across, is that these scientists feel like they have a moral obligation to make more perfect children, just because they figured out how. Scientists are trying to create what they call “designer babies” they are changing certain genes, or what they called them were personality flaws. They say it is so they are less likely to “harm themselves or others”. They do this by screening in and out on the embryo before they fertilize it. Making sure that the genes aren’t flawed. Scientist’s said “If we have the power to intervene in the nature of our offspring — rather than consigning them to the natural lottery — then we should. "
Pros The Pro’s of genetically engineering children are, that there is less of a chance that you will be producing a murderer, or a rapist. And you can change their genes to where their better at sports or even more involved in school. And if more children were like that we would have a more perfect society. & Cons The Con’s of genetically engineering children is, what if you have the next elvis on your hands and you just change his/her genes. You will never know who your child was really meant to be. Having a child is like playing chance, you're not supposed to know or have control over the things your child will like. That’s a part of life, and tampering with that seems sick.
My opinion In this article they talk about how making genetically engineered babies and the benefits of modifying their genes to create a more perfect society. i disagree, i think you should let them naturally be whatever person they were meant to be. Because in a way i think that is brainwashing. We will never know who that person would of been if we had not of messed with their genes.
