Training Outcomes All Designated Teachers will: • have a strong understanding of their role for both Children Looked After (CLA)and Previously Looked After (PCLA) • know how to gain support from Sutton Virtual School • understand how the Graduated Response for Preventing Exclusions can be used across all Sutton Schools to support CLA and PCLA

Summary - Key DT responsibilities • Take lead responsibility for ensuring school staff are well trained on the how to support CLA and PCLA • Promote a culture of high expectations and aspirations for CLA and PCLA • Have lead responsibility for the development and implementation of Personal Education Plans (PEP) • Track performance and progress for all CLA and PCLA and ensure appropriate and timely interventions, using Pupil Premium when required
Personal Education Plan (PEP) 6 • A statutory document part of the overall ‘care plan’ • Completed within 20 working days (10 if emergency placement) of a child becoming Looked After • Takes place termly at a meeting attended by the child and key professionals • Short and long term targets are set to support the learning development of the young person • The PEP is a mechanism used to monitor achievement, progress and impact of Pupil Premium funding
Pupil Premium Plus • £ 2300 for CLA is discharged by the Virtual School • £ 2300 for PCLA is paid directly to the school • Sutton Virtual School allocate £ 600 per term to schools • Additional funding can be requested based on need 7
New Ofsted Framework Inspectors will: • evaluate evidence of the impact of the curriculum for CLA and PCLA • consider the way the school is working with the multiagency group to ensure appropriate support is received • Ask about the registration status of any alternative providers used 8
What is a Virtual School? • A local authority service led by the Virtual School Headteacher who has responsibility for improving outcomes for CLA and PCLA • Direct oversight of all local authority CLA placed in or out of Borough. • Providing advice, support and challenge to ensure high aspiration for CLA and PCLA 9
How the Virtual School can support you • Input into PEPs for Sutton CLA • Advice and guidance for all CLA and PCLA • • Use of PPP Linking up multi-agency support Training network support Strategies for supporting trauma and attachment difficulties (new role)
Graduated Response for Preventing Exclusions • Hosted on Sutton Local Offer website Aims: • To have a consistent approach across all Sutton Schools to meeting social, emotional and mental health needs and to prevent exclusions • To enable every child and young person to benefit from high-quality education that supports them to fulfil their potential
