The Design principles of proximity tells you to put related items close together physically. Things that aren't related should be farther apart. The amount of separation between items or groups tells your reader how the material is organized. Repetition The Design principles of repetition is consistency. Repetition acts as a visual key that ties your piece together. The Design principles of balance provides stability and structure to a design. Symmetrical balance is achieved when the weight of the elements on both halves of the design is even, given a centre line. Asymmetrical balance is achieved by the use of contrast.
