Reinforced concrete cores and walls Reinforcement can be assigned to virtual beams and virtual strips: • Virtual beams can be used to design reinforcedconcrete cores with the assumption that sections remain approximately plane before and after loading. • Virtualstrips can be used by the designcheck of wall ends or wall segmentsconsideringpossiblebucklingfailuresof the wall between floors.

Defining reinforcement • Parameters for reinforcement and actual reinforcement can be specified in the dialog (Design check of reinforced concrete core/wall ) below. • This dialog can be opened after clickingon Define and check reinforcementbutton on Virtual beams and Virtual stripstabs, respectively. • On the page of Reinfrocement bars the steel material, the concrete material, the out-of-plane bucklingparameters(only in case of virtualstrips) can be specified and longitudinal reinforcement with certain diameter can be placed in the cross section.

Using stories, more economical and efficient reinforcementcan be assignedto the virtualbeam that followsthe changein the internal forces. A storey needs to have intersectionwith the axis of the selected virtual beam/strip. The softwarefills the list of storieswith predefinedmodel stories if there any. The stories assigned to a virtual beam or strips does not necessarily need to be identical with the stories of the model.

It may be necessary because the Nx-My. Mz strength interaction diagram of cores is generated without considerationthe loss of stability of compressed wall ends and inner wall segments. The program supports the use of various summationrules as it can be seen in the following figure. The combinationrule to calculateutilizationfor the selected virtualbeam – virtualstrip pair can be definedbelowthe list. The different combination rules are available : 1. η = max(η 1, η 2) 2. η = (η 1)a + (η 2)b
