DESIGN BRIEF: BRIDGE v Design a bridge to span a 500 mm gap and support a weight no less than 150 g and no more than 250 g.
BRIDGE v The bridge must fail when a weight of 250 g + factor of safety is applied. v It must be a realistic scale model (ie not all in one piece) v It must support a weight of 150 g.
BRIDGE v You must supply a folder with your model. v The folder should include the following headings:
BRIDGE Analysis of brief v Research v Design ideas v Concept sketches v Timeline of events v Details of manufacture v Testing v Evaluation of project v
Analysis of brief v What YOU think the brief is asking for.
Research v Pictures and info from books, internet etc about bridges, the different types, the principals behind them and what they are made from. v Research Factor of Safety.
Design Ideas & concept sketches v Initial ideas of how to build the bridge. v Sketches of what it may look like.
Timeline of events v 1 st is research v 2 nd is ideas v 3 rd is to put brief together v 4 th is to get material v 5 th is to build etc
Details of manufacture v Write a step by step account of how you made the bridge. v You can support this by taking pictures as you build it.
Testing v You must test the bridge to make sure it fails at 250 g + factor of safety.
Evaluation v Was the project a success? v Did you satisfy the brief? v If not, why? What went wrong? v What would you do different next time?
