DESIGN AN IDEAL LIBRARY SPACE THAT WILL MEET
DESIGN AN “IDEAL” LIBRARY SPACE THAT WILL MEET THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS IN YOUR SCHOOL. Oral Presentation. By: Renaldo Grayson Course: EDSL 0104 Special Services for Adolescents
Present Library Pictures ØAt present the library doorway is very standard. A wheelchair bound individual would not be able to access the library because of the width of the doorway. Any other disabled person would need assistance to enter. ØThe ideal layout would be wide automatic doors so that someone in a wheelchair would have adequate space to enter.
Body of the Library ØBooks are stacked very traditionally on metal shelves. The books are packed right up to the uppermost levels of the shelf making it well nigh impossible for anyone with a disability to access them without assistance. ØThe ideal setup would probably include lower or broader shelves so that the disabled would have easier access to the material.
Library computer layout ØThere is an absence of text reading and text enhancement software on the library’s computers making it difficult for a disabled person to utilize the computers. ØThere is no open book scanner available so that disabled users would be able to hear and see the text read to them. ØNo Braille embosser to convert text into braille for the visually impaired clients.
The Ideal Library ØDisabled patrons able to access the Library’s facilities
The Ideal Library cont’d ØDisabled patrons able to use their assistive technologies within the Library.
The Ideal Library cont’d ØPatrons able to use text reading and enhancement software on the Library’s computers.
Conclusion ØThe Ideal Library would not only be accessible and usable by all patrons, disabled and abled alike, but would also provide the service in such a way that the patrons would be satisfied, happy and want to come back!
