Design a Vegetable Garden
Measuring Measure the perimeter and area of your garden space. Plan out at least 5 garden beds to fit into the garden. Each garden bed will grow a different vegetable. Plan out where each garden bed will sit in the garden Ensure there is sufficient space around each bed to walk as well as work in the garden bed. • Create a draft design of your garden including the measurements of the garden fence, each garden bed and the space between garden beds. • Calculate the area and perimeter of each garden bed. • • •
Scale Drawing • Using your draft design and measurements, create a scale design of your garden bed.
Planting • Choose the vegetables you will plant in your garden bed. • Refer to the planting guide to see how the seeds will be planted. • Consider the distance between each seed and work out how many seeds will be planted in the garden bed. • Add this information to your scale drawing.
Volume • The wood to build the garden beds is 0. 3 m in height. • Calculate the volume of each garden bed. • Record this onto your scale drawing.
Cost • Calculate the cost of wood for the garden beds and seeds. • Refer to the table below for the costs One meter of wood $2. 40 One cubic meter of soil $3. 50 Lettuce seeds 65 c each Radish seeds 27 c each Beetroot seeds 45 c each Corn seeds 20 c each Cabbage seeds 19 c each 76 c each 90 c each 38 c each 29 c each 12 c each
Total Costs • Record the cost of each item in a table and then add up the grand total of your garden. Item Total Cost
