Significant Legislation • AB 66 (R&T) – Restoration of Firearms Rights – Effective 10/1/2011 • AB 75 (R&T) – Sex Offender Registration Loopholes & Reinstate “Unlawful Contact” – Died in Committee. Tabled until 2013 or beyond. • AB 282 (Asm. Oceguera) – Concealed Weapons – Reinstates Brady Exemption. Effective 7/1/2011. • SB 491 (Sen. Revenue) – Various Revenue Measures including Court Assessment Diversion – Died in Committee. 10 -6 -11 3
2009 NARIP Grant - DPS • System Enhancements to Brady and Protection Order Applications – Starting October 2011 & completion Fall 2012 • Fingerprint Card Conversion services – Manual to digital format ~ 300, 000 images – Allows for searching – Started September 2011 & completion Spring 2012 • Task Force for Records Improvement – Assess completeness/availability of NICS records – Identify reasons for incomplete NICS records – Develop a Statewide NICS Act Record Improvement Plan 10 -6 -11 4
2009 NARIP Grant - AOC • Hired MTG Management Consultants to conduct two studies – Improvement of NICS Reporting from Courts to Records Bureau – Improvements for Statewide Protection Order System • Draft Studies for both processes complete – Several recommendations for improvement in business processes, systems, policies, Legislation • Need for overall governance body to drive the process. – Make NARIP Task Force Standing subcommittee to NCJIS Advisory? – Funding/travel for Task Force 10 -6 -11 5
2009 NCHIP Grant • Business Analysis to study current manual disposition reporting process & recommend path for e-dispos – – Requirements for law enforcement Requirements for DAs & Courts Requirements for Repository & AOC Identify potential funding sources • MTG Management Consultants hired May 2011 • Study underway, including agency interviews • Expected interview completion December 2011 10 -6 -11 6
Nevada Offense Codes • Consultant retained to convert 2011 Statutes to 11 -character Intelligent NOC model • Work continues to transition local agencies from old 5 -digit NOC series to 5 -digit Transitional Series • DPS will house NOC database starting January 2012 10 -6 -11 7
