Route of transmission n Dengue virus is transmitted to human by mosquitoes, especially Aedes aegypti埃及伊 蚊 and Aedes albopictu白紋伊蚊. Transmission By Vectors

Route of transmission n This is a day-biting species日間叮人 with increased biting activities for 2 hours after sunrise and several hours before sunset. n Patients are usually infective for mosquitoes from shortly before to the end of the febrile period 剛發燒前至退燒期 , an average of about 6 -7 days. It cannot be directly transmitted from person to person.

General Treatments in HK There is no specific treatment for dengue fever or dengue haemorrhagic fever n seek medical assistance immediately, especially with bleeding signs n High fever should be treated by sponging溫水 抹身 and the appropriate use of paracetamol 退燒藥 n Do not take aspirin because they can lead to bleeding and cause stomach irritation n

Preventive measures Personal protection measures ~Wear long-sleeved shirts and trousers ~Avoid staying in scrubby多樹的 areas ~Use mosquito screens or nets when the room is not air-conditioned ~Use insect repellents驅蚊劑 containing DEET 避蚊胺 on exposed skin ~If travelling in endemic rural areas, carry a portable bed-net and apply permethrin氯菊酯 噴 on it as well as to clothes. n

Mosquito control (larval control and adult mosquito control) ~Periodic draining or removal of artificial containers to reduce the breeding grounds for mosquitos ~Keep the water stores clean and closed. ~Use of larvicides殺幼蟲劑 or mosquito larvaeeating fish in waters that cannot be drained. ~Fill tree holes with sand or cement水泥 and plug the tops of bamboo fences. n
