Requirements ● Presentation: You may bring note cards up with you. These notecards are called a key word outline (as opposed to having your full sentence outline up there with you ). ● The key word outline should be made after practicing your speech so that you know where you may need to jog your memory during the course of the speech. ● Certain things can be written out for accuracy such as quotations, definitions and your introduction and conclusion.

Essentials: ● Visual Aids: MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE VISUAL AID! ● Visuals are usually inherent to the demonstration speech. ● In order for you to make, do, or repair something, you need to have the object that you are demonstrating. So for the most part, ingredients, materials, models, or even you make up the visual aids. ● The purpose of the visual aid is to discourage you from using a word-for-word manuscript

Tips ● Also known as the “How to” speech ● Shy away from giving a speech about a topic everyone has already mastered, such as how to tie shoes or make a sandwich, unless you have an interesting, unique or humorous twist you can bring to it. ● You should not assume everyone in the class knows how to do something you take for granted as being “easy”

● Students must follow formal speech structure from lesson #2 and must incorporate the use of at least one prominent visual aid. ● The purpose of the visual aid is to discourage you from using a word-for-word manuscript (it is difficult to read word-for-word while manipulating an object physically), not because there is anything inherently wrong with such a manuscript, but at this point in the course, a strong connection to the audience, primarily through eye contact, must be reinforced.

Demonstration Outline Exemplar K. Keaton Speech I Mrs. Queen 17 October 2017 Demonstration Speech on How to Make the Chocolatiest Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough General Purpose: Demonstrate how to make my Molten Nutella Dough Specific Purpose: To demonstrate how to make the chocolatiest chocolate cookie dough EVER! Central Idea: I want everyone to know how to make the best treat after a long day at school. I. Introduction A. Usually my days are all the same. School, eat, sleep, repeat. But one day, I came home and I was really craving something but I couldn’t put my finger on. So naturally, I drag my dad to the store and just go aisle surfing for what I wanted. And then I hit gold. Chocolate chips, and Nutella. Y’all, can I tell you a secret? Chocolate is my guilty pleasure! And Nutella? A heavenly combination. I was going to make the chocolatiest chocolate chip cookie dough known to mankind. B. Today, I am blessing y’all with my recipe that I use as my post-lunch-pre-dinner snack so you can indulge when you’re having a bad day.

II. A. Body Fake Food: Flour, Brown Sugar, Butter, Soy Milk, Chocolate Chips, Nutella Utensils: Measuring Cups, Bowl, Spoon, Fork, Plate, Microwave **You will put the items you will be using to the side. B. Step 1 1. First things first, you need to get out all of your supplies. Most of the things in this recipe are household items. We need flour, milk, butter, brown sugar, and then chocolate chips and Nutella. Transition Now we can start putting everything together. C. Mix all of your dry ingredients. 1. Put together your 1 cup of flour, 1/3 cup of brown sugar, and ⅓ cup of regular sugar in a bowl. 2. Now mix them together with your spoon or fork. I like to use a fork to get rid of the lumps. Transition Now to get ready for the next step we should start to melt our butter. D. Add your wet ingredients. 1. Slowly add ¼ cup of your milk and all of your butter and mix as much as you can. Continue to add milk until you get a thick dough. Now, sometimes, I add too much milk but that’s okay because then I add more flour and as a result I get even more chocolatey goodness!

Transition Now here’s the fun step. E. We get to add all the chocolate

Transition Now here’s the fun step. E. We get to add all the chocolate we want. I usually use about half a cup of chocolate chips and two table spoons of Nutella. 1. Spoon in your nutella and fold it in so the dough is a nice even chocolate color. 2. Lastly, add your chocolate chips. And your dough is done! 3. If you want, you can eat it now. But it’s better if you warm it up for about a minute. It’s like a mix between fudge and chocolate pie. III. AND YOU’RE DONE! A. That’s my super easy, super customizable recipe for cookie dough. You don’t have to use chocolate, you can use mint or peanut butter, or anything really! Remember, dry ingredients, wet ingredients, and then our flavoring. And if you want to make it extra gooey, you can heat it up for about a minute! B. And now, as you guys go off into the world and become politicians athletes and marines and FBI agents and husbands and mothers and all other stuff, I hope you remember this recipe for when you’re stressed out or bored or questioning your life or binge watching Netflix episodes.
