Greek Background: In Greek Mythology “Demon or Daimon” was not a negative or dark term. Olympians are often referred to as gods or daimones. Can mean “Divine Powers” or serve as an intermediate being; not quite god and not quite man. Often Could used to represent the spirits of the dead. also denote a spirit granted to each mortal at birth to watch over them.
Christianity: The term demon took on a much darker meaning with the rise of Christianity. This was now viewed solely as “power from the devil”. Represented a satanic or evil spirit.
Modern Representation: Still viewed as a dark term in Christianity; relating to the devil. Often depicted in modern horror movies: The Exorcist, The Conjuring, etc. Discussed multiple times throughout Buzzfeed Unsolved: Supernatural.
