Stage 1: Low Growth • Hunters and Gatherers • Unpredictable food supply made for high CDRs • Transition into domesticated farming—high CBR • No countries** are currently in this stage – There are remote groups and some people living with these conditions.

Stage 2: • CDR drops! But CBR stays high. • This happens in 1800’s in U. S and England: Industrial Revolution • This happens in 1950’s in African, Asian and Latin American countries: Medical Revolution. • Combination of farm and factory • Most African countries are still in this stage.

Stage 3: Moderate Growth • CBR begins to drop. Smaller families • NIR slows down • Countries enter this stage because of the change in social norms. • Low IMR • People live in Urban Areas and work in Factories. • Asian and Latin American countries are in this stage.

Stage 4: Low Growth • CBR and CDR are about equal • Zero Growth • Replacement Rate • TFR of 2. 1 or lower • Career, (service) birth control, education, time and money. • United States, Japan, European Union countries are in this stage.
