Biggar (2013) further states, we have been researching for a cure for the last 40 years and have not found one. According to Downs (2013): Person-Centered Care was started by Tom Kitwood and his colleague Kathleen Bredin in the late 1980 s and early 1990 s in the United Kingdom. The goal in person-centered care is to affirm the person’s value as a human being or their personhood. We need to learn their story and individualize their activities. In Maslow et al (2013): The individual is the core and the key to person-centered care and the person or self is still there even when the cognitive abilities are greatly diminished. The self endures in spite of dementia and we need to connect with the person in the moment and support the self in every interaction. Love & Pinkowitz (2013) states emotionally, “The nurses got to know me and could support me in ways that were personally meaningful … These might sound like little things – a soda, an art project, a few minutes spent talking … nothing they did cost extra money or required intensive training, but the fact that they saw me as person – and treated me like one – helped restore my dignity and sense of personhood” (P. 24). Thomas Kitwood, the father of person-centered care, presented an approach to care that embraces God’s love and sovereignty. It moves us from biomedical and care focused to personhood. According to Kitwood (2007), “Man is God’s creation. The Christian understanding of man must begin here. According to Christianity, man is not just a collection of chemicals that came into being by an intricate process and then evolved mind and consciousness. Man owes his whole being, his physical vitality and his spiritual aspirations to God from whom all life derives. His existence is no chance or accident. .
