Geography Delphi Geography Steep slope of Mount Parnassus About 6 miles from the Gulf of Corinth In Europe In the lower central part of Greece Over looks the Pleistos Valley
Stable food source § § Main crops Barley, was used for flour bread and porridge. Grapes , were used for wine, dried raisins. Olives, were used for olive oil, cooking, lamps. • Breakfast: • For breakfast in Delphi they usually dipped bread in wine. • Lunch • They also dipped bread in wine for lunch, but they also had olives and figs. • Dinner • They mostly had vegetables, fruit and fish.
Government Delphi governed by Aristocrats who were members of a 12 member federation(Also known as Amphictronia) Aristocrats Unified small city-states Ruled a large territory Had wonderful political religious influence through out Greece Delphi known as the center of worship for the one god Apollo
Religion Legend says that it was center of the world because it was where the two eagles that Zeus let out met (one from the east and one from the west) Apollo is an important god The oracle of Apollo(priestess) would answer questions from visitors Many religious sites such as Olympia, Isthmia, and Nemea Delphi was once the most important religious sites in Ancient Greece
