Why is Europe not fully tapping into the potential of data? Cultures of disincentives Why isn’t science open already? Barriers to interoperability www. eoscpilot. eu Fragmentation between infrastructures Access to big data computing resources The European Open Science Cloud for Research pilot project is funded by the European Commission, DG Research & Innovation under contract no. 739563 3

A coordinated effort to change how research is done through EOSC • • • Make data open by default Change incentive structures to share data Raise Awareness of open data . www. eoscpilot. eu Cultures of disincentives Researchers, at all levels, equipped with RDM skills, data science, data visualisation, awareness and adherence to research integrity standards, knowledge and data curation skills (first sketch of a vision statement for open research) The European Open Science Cloud for Research pilot project is funded by the European Commission, DG Research & Innovation under contract no. 739563 4

Aim of this workshop How can academic rewards systems better recognise the work to make science open, and encourage researchers to develop the right skills? In order to change academic rewards system, it is necessary that the skills (or the requirements) that researchers should have at different stages of their careers are defined and agreed upon. outcomes will provide a useful feedback to EOSCpilot, which is laying the groundwork for skills development in the European Commission’s European Open Science Cloud. www. eoscpilot. eu The European Open Science Cloud for Research pilot project is funded by the European Commission, DG Research & Innovation under contract no. 739563 5
