Defining Container Types Step 1 Begin by navigating to the Container Types page. Click the Inventory menu.
Defining Container Types Step 2 Click the Maintain Containers menu.
Defining Container Types Step 3 Click the Container Types menu.
Defining Container Types Step 4 Click the Add a New Value tab.
Defining Container Types Step 5 For this exercise, accept the default value in the Set. ID field.
Defining Container Types Step 6 Click in the Container Type field.
Defining Container Types Step 7 Enter the desired information into the Container Type field. Enter "BOXL".
Defining Container Types Step 8 Click the Add button.
Defining Container Types Step 9 Use the Container Types page to create or change storage containers for your inventory item.
Defining Container Types Step 10 The Effective Date determines when the container status is activated. Click in the Effective Date field.
Defining Container Types Step 11 Enter the desired information into the Effective Date field. Enter "01/01/2008".
Defining Container Types Step 12 The two options for Status are Active and Inactive. For this exercise, accept the default value of Active.
Defining Container Types Step 13 Click in the Description field.
Defining Container Types Step 14 Use the Description field to specify a description of the container. Enter the desired information into the Description field. Enter "Large box".
Defining Container Types Step 15 The Item Selection list has two options: Single and Multiple. Select Single to indicate that a single item can be added to this container. Select Multiple Items to indicate that multiple items can be added to this container. For this exercise, accept the default value of Multiple Items.
Defining Container Types Step 16 If you select Single in the Item Selection field, use the Item ID field to determine the single item that can be added to this container. This is not a required field at this time. When you add the first item to this container, the system will use that item ID as the single item.
Defining Container Types Step 17 Use the Dimensions group box to enter the dimensions and dimension unit of measure of the container. For this exercise, enter "3" in all height, width, and length fields, and enter "FT" in the Dimension UOM field.

Defining Container Types Step 19 Enter the desired information into the Height field. Enter "3".
Defining Container Types Step 20 Click in the Width field.
Defining Container Types Step 21 Enter the desired information into the Width field. Enter "3".
Defining Container Types Step 22 Click in the Length field.
Defining Container Types Step 23 Enter the desired information into the Length field. Enter "3".
Defining Container Types Step 24 To save time, the remaining data is entered for you.
Defining Container Types Step 25 Click in the Dimension UOM field.
Defining Container Types Step 26 Enter the desired information into the Dimension UOM field. Enter "FT".
Defining Container Types Step 27 Click the Attributes tab.
Defining Container Types Step 28 Use the Attributes page to specify additional attributes for the storage container.
Defining Container Types Step 29 Use the Effective Date field to indicate when the attributes of this container changes. For this exercise, accept the default value.
Defining Container Types Step 30 Use the Material, Empty Weight, Max Weight, and Weight UOM fields to provide additional information about this container.
Defining Container Types Step 31 Click in the Max Weight field.
Defining Container Types Step 32 Enter the desired information into the Max Weight field. Enter "100".
Defining Container Types Step 33 Use the Weight UOM field to specify the unit of measure that is used to measure dimensions of the container related to weight. Click in the Weight UOM field.
Defining Container Types Step 34 Enter the desired information into the Weight UOM field. Enter "LBS".
Defining Container Types Step 35 Click the Save button.
Defining Container Types Step 36 You have successfully defined a container type in People. Soft Inventory. End of Procedure.
