Indigenous Heritage Services The Defence Heritage Register • The intent of the EPBC Act Commonwealth heritage provisions is to protect all heritage places owned or controlled by the Commonwealth • The threshold for the CHL is local heritage significance (AHC 2010: 7) • Environmental Factor Records (EFRs) on the Garrison Estate Management System (GEMS) provides the Defence Heritage Register • All heritage assets, areas and places included on GEMS are protected under SS 26 & 28 of the EPBC Act • The Defence Estate Heritage Strategy commits to managing identified but not yet listed heritage places in accordance with the Commonwealth Heritage Management Principles established in the EPBC Regulations 10
