DEE 3061 – COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN (CAD)
• The beginnings of CAD can be traced to year 1957, when Dr. Patrick J. Hanratty developed PRONTO, the first commercial numerical-control programming system. • In 1960, Ivan Sutherland MIT's Lincoln Laboratory created SKETCHPAD, which demonstrated the basic principles and feasibility of computer technical drawing. shamsuddin© History 2
Defination of CAD • What is (CAD)? ? ? 3
• CAD is Computer Aided Design • Allow to accomplish design and drafting activities using a computer 4
Computer aided design • Is a tools that can be used for design and drafting activities • To make ‘rough’ idea drawings, although it is more suited to creating accurate finished drawings and renderings. • Can be used to create a 2 D and 3 D computer model of the product or system 5 shamsuddin©
design • Design - process of making an idea into a real product/system (sketches, drawings, renderings, 2 D models, 3 D models, prototypes, testing, analysis and documentation) 6
• Input. Computer Devices - A Cad system may use one or more System Requirements for CAD combination input devices. Keyboard, mouse, and scanner. • Output Devices - Printer, plotter, • Central Processing Unit - Minimum requirements (At least 800 MHz Pentium III, 512 mb of RAM) 7
Computer System Requirements for CAD • Display Device - Monitor with Super Video Graphic Arrays (SGVA) -1024 x 768 resolution display. • Storage Device - 750 MB Hard disk, diskette, and compact disk. • Latest version of windows - (Windows 7, Vista, XP). Not applicable for Windows NT, 98 and Me 8
