Most of all, it is with great humility that I acknowledge the immense fortune of having known in my early years at Illinois three giants of their time, William L. Everitt, Edward C. Jordan, and Mac E. Van Valkenburg, whom I consider the grandfather, and uncle of the ECE Department, respectively. They can be seen in the picture, on the next slide, which was taken in 1975. 8
