What? The Declaration of Independence is a break up letter from the United States to England. We declare that we want independence (to be our own country)

When? 1776

Why? The colonists had many conflicts with England that were not resolved.

What is it? Rule of Law Everyone has to follow the laws, even the leaders. How did England violate it? The king would make rules and then not follow them himself.

What is it? The people must give the Consent of government the permission to be in Governed charge. How did England violate it? The king wouldn’t let the colonists make their own decisions.

What is it? The government should do what Popular the people want. Sovereignty The people should have the power. How did England violate it? King didn’t care what the colonists wanted. He did what he wanted.

What is it? There should be some things that the government Limited Government is not allowed to do. How did England violate it? England forced Americans to let English officers live in their homes.

Baltimore City students decide that school should begin at 9: 00 am instead of 8: 00 am for all City High Schools. The Board of Education changes school schedules based upon this request.
