Mark Your Calendars! *December 18: Half Day End of Term 2 *December 21 -Jan 5: Holiday Break In Reading, students will focus on how illustrations add to the understanding of informational text. They will also work on using context clues and other strategies to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words. Our focus strategy for this month is selfmonitoring for understanding. We want to ensure that our students understand that good readers monitor themselves as they read. Please continue to encourage your student to read for about 20 minutes each night. LGE is working hard this year to ensure that students are excited about reading! Writing We will continue to work on our informational unit. Students will be working on their finished product of writing. We will also focus on ensuring that students are producing their best quality writing! Math Students will continue working with multiplication. They will be learning how to use the distributive property, multiples of tens, models, the relationship between multiplication and division, and other strategies to solve multiplication and division problems. Please continue to work on fact fluency with your students at home (Dollar Tree has great flash cards). Science/Social Studies In Science, students are learning about rocks. By the end of the unit, students will be able to ask questions and analyze data to classify rocks by their physical attributes (color, texture, luster, and hardness) using simple tests.
