DEBATE: Should Schools Ban Dodgeball? Kids across the country have played dodgeball during recess and in gym class for decades. But in recent years, many schools have said, “You’re out!” to the popular game. Last spring, school officials in Windham, New Hampshire, voted to ban dodgeball and other “human target” games. Physical education teachers from Windham schools suggested dropping these games because they can lead to injuries. School officials also say games like dodgeball encourage students to target weaker kids, which can lead to bullying. Many parents and students, though, disagree with giving dodgeball the boot. They argue that it builds teamwork and is a good form of exercise. Some people who want to keep dodgeball argue that other sports are more dangerous. Here’s what two of our readers think.
