Focus and Tardy cards Both the focus and tardy card are used as tools for behavior management. It helps teach the student what behavior is expected while simultaneously teaching the student that certain behaviors should be changed. They are both used to empower the students to take control toward personal responsibility. Students are responsible for carrying their own cards (planner, in pocket, or lanyards) at all times. The cards are used as a reflection tool for the students to reflect on the incident(s), what happened, what they can change, and to look for patterns in their behavior, with specific teachers and specific hours.
Focus and Tardy cards -A tool to track minor infractions while at the same time giving 7 to 10 teachable moment opportunities. - Tier 1 intervention for all students. - Provides data as it allows us to see whether or not we are giving the 4 to 1 ratio - Tiered reward system at the end of the semester for students who are in possession of original cards and have taken responsibility; having minimal tardies or infractions recorded.
Challenges and Positives “Gotcha” moments when the program was initially implemented, therefore also used as teachable tools for staff on how to provide corrective feedback. Deterred students from acting out or misbehaving in school setting. Students qualify for celebrations when they have 3 or less signatures. Some students were losing them on purpose, while others were filling their cards up quickly. Accommodations are routinely made for those students who fall into these categories (virtual focus and tardy cards, second focus cards with different consequences outlined for infractions). Less students being sent to the office for minor infractions and more time spent in the classroom.
