Physics and Astronomy Classification Scheme • • • The Physics and Astronomy Classification Scheme PACS is a hierarchical subject classification scheme designed to classify and categorize the literature of physics and astronomy. PACS provides an essential tool for classification and efficient retrieval of literature in physics and astronomy; as such, PACS is used by AIP (The American Institute of Physic. www. aip. org ). and other international publishers of journals in physics, astronomy, and related fields. What is PACS? PACS contains ten broad subject categories subdivided into narrower categories. The hierarchy includes mainly four levels of depth, with the narrowest term giving the most detailed characterization. However, beginning with the 2006 edition, a fifth level hierarchy was introduced; subsequently, in this new edition, the fifth level hierarchy is continued in sections that have undergone revision and will also be a part of future editions. PACS also includes detailed appendices for acoustics and geophysics, a nanoscale science and technology supplement, and a topical alphabetical index with corresponding PACS codes. 14

Примеры: «Prime novelty statement» и «High light» • • • The major novelty of this research is the experimentally confirmed ability of the flow of complex sequencing reactions and discontinuous decomposition with the release of dispersed strengthening nanoparticles in the Cr-Al-Ni based alloy with the fcc crystalline lattice at prolonged annealing (300 hours) in an inert environment at low temperatures (of 673 K). As a result, the mechanical properties of the alloy (microhardness, tensile strength), increase without losing ductility properties The paper Darya Alontseva, Alyona Russakova Forming strengthening nanoparticles in the Ni–Cr-Al based superalloy after strong deformation and low-temperature aging presents the analysis of new results of experimental investigating of the structure-phase compositions and mechanical properties of the Ni-Cr-Al-based alloy after strong deformation and low – temperature aging. We empirically established the isolation of nanoparticles of new phase at long aging at 673 K in the result of complex reaction of recrystallization and cellular precipitation. The analysis of kinetic dependence of mechanical properties testifies to strengthening influence of a new phase. The main scientific result of this work is the experimentally confirmed ability of the flow of complex sequencing reactions and discontinuous decomposition with the release of dispersed strengthening nanoparticles in the 40 Cr-4 Al-Ni alloy at prolonged annealing (300 hours) in an inert environment at low temperatures (of 673 K). As a result, the mechanical properties of the alloy (microhardness, tensile strength, yield strength) increase without losing ductility properties. The alloy receives the necessary energy for initiating processes of decomposition and sequencing after the preliminary cold roll deformation with = 50%. The observed complex reaction, first, should be taken into account in the calculation of structures of alloys of similar composition and application, which are exploited in close temperature intervals; secondly, it can be used to improve the mechanical properties of these alloys as an additional mechanical-thermal treatment. 16
Структура рецензии • • • Acta Physica Polonica A Author: Title: Recommendations regarding this manuscript: The paper represents a significant new contribution and should be published either as is, or subject to minor revisions as indicated below. ___ The paper is probably publishable, but should be reviewed again in revised form before it is accepted. ___ The paper is not recommended for publication because: a) ___ it does not provide new physical insights b) ___ the material is not appropriate for Acta Physica Polonica A; more appropriate journals are: Comments: 17
Пример положительной рецензии • • • • Recommendations regarding this manuscript: Yes_The paper represents a significant new contribution and should be published subject to minor revisions as indicated below. Comments: The authors write: Figure captions “Fig. 4. Temperature dependences of conductivity (T) for the samples of x = 0. 312 (a) and 0. 457 (b) plotted in Mott scale with the exponent n = 0. 5 (curves 1 and 1/) and n = 0. 25 (curves 2 and 2/) in relation (1). 1, 2 – experimentl data, 1/, 2/ – linear approximations of lnρ – T-n with n = 0. 5 and n = 0. 25 correspondingly. ” This is probably a typo, should be written “experimental” The authors give a reference to the literary source [9], but it is not listed in the References “The value of xmax is close to 0. 5 that corresponds to 3 D model of percolation for the binary composites metalinsulator [9]” In the References given 2 different works in paragraph [3]. One of them should be removed. Authors need carefully check references. The authors write: “The latter is determined by atomic fraction of the metallic phase x in the composite, ratio of metallic and dielectric phases conductances, phase composition of nanoparticles (the presence or lack of native oxides around them), matrix and also some geometrical parameters of metallic phases (dimensions and their scattering, shape and topology of distribution of nanoparticles, etc. ) [2 -5]”. Perhaps it is better to replace the word "conductances" on the „of conductivity” as shown below „The latter is determined by atomic fraction of the metallic phase x in the composite, ratio of metallic and dielectric phases of conductivity, phase composition of nanoparticles (the presence or lack of native oxides around them), matrix and also some geometrical parameters of metallic phases (dimensions and their scattering, shape and topology of distribution of nanoparticles, etc. ) [2 -5]” 18
На своих ошибках (пример отрицательной рецензии) • Specific Comments • The Introduction lacks an adequate literature review. Various duplex treatments are known. Heat treatment after various thermal spraying processes is likewise very well known. Various heat treatments which melt the surface after deposition (i. e. surface alloying) have also been described. The processes closest to that described in the present work should be briefly reviewed. The review should end with a “gap sentence” which clearly states what has not been published in the past, neither by other groups nor by the author and his group (and presumably will be done in the present work). The objective stated at the end of the Introduction is very general and vague. The Introduction should end with a precise, focused “statement of purpose”. In each case where the author feels it necessary to state which specific equipment was used, both the manufacturer and the model number must be given. The author’s sentences tend to be overly long and ponderous, making this paper difficult to read. Good scientific writing is terse. The author should strive to shorten his sentences by eliminating unnecessary words, and using the shortest grammatical construction which conveys the desired meaning. Use of direct, specific verbs instead of derived nouns with a generalized verb (e. g. “. . the microhardness was measured…” instead of “…measurements were made of the microhardness…. ” is highly recommended. • • • 19
На своих ошибках (пример отрицательной рецензии, продолжение) The organization of the “Discussion of Physical Experimental Results” is not acceptable. It consistently “puts the cart before the horse” – i. e. states a conclusion, and only afterwards gives the evidence upon which this conclusion is based. This section should be reorganized and rewritten as follows: Its adviseable to divide this section into separate “Results” and “Discussion” sections. This lessens the chances of mixing “facts” (i. e. results) with interpretations, speculations, and extrapolations. Each “raw” result (e. g. micrograph, XRD spectrum, EDX spectrum, composition table) should first be presented, usually in the form of a graph or table, and described. Only then should comments be offered on the result, or conclusions drawn from the results. In the present case, it would be best to present all of the results in a separate “Results” section, and then, after all the “facts” are on the table, to interpret these results in a separate “Discussion” section. One of the author’s major points is that the post deposition treatment results in nano-structures. The only direct evidence is broadening of the XRD lines, but this is not analyzed quantitatively. The average crystallite size can be determined from the HAFW of the lines. The disappearance of the lines might be because of the formation of nano-structure, but could also occur if the structure was amorphous. The author notes that TEM (or more precisely HRTEM) can resolve this issue, but no TEM results are presented. Lacking a decisive test, the explanation offered, albeit well reasoned and quite possibly correct, is nonetheless somewhat speculative. This is OK, but modest, tentative language should be employed to convey this sense to the reader (e. g. “…a possible explanation is that…. ”). Frequently incorrect English words are employed. Some corrections are offered on the m/s. In other 20 cases the author’s intention was not clear.
