Dear Parents Its hard to believe but its
Dear Parents, It’s hard to believe but it’s that time of year again-the beginning of a new school year. Welcome to 5 th grade at Ewa Beach Elementary! My name is Ashlee Nagamine and I will be your child’s teacher for the 2017 -2018 school year. There is so much excitement approaching us as we think about this upcoming school year with new activities, adventures in technology, and new concepts to master within the curriculum. I am looking forward to working with your child and sharing in all of these times. This will be my fifth year teaching 5 th grade, I have taught 4 th grade in previous years. My educational background-I attended La Pietra, Hawaii school for girls and went on to play golf at California State University-Northridge on a full ride golf scholarship. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Education and further continued my schooling at the University of Hawaii where I obtained my Masters in Education. During my years of being a student athlete I learned important skills like leadership, time management and how to effectively work with others toward a common goal. With that in mind, I believe in teaching students the same skills while becoming lifelong learners with a motivation to succeed. Communication between a parent, a student, and the student’s teacher is one of the most important tools that enable children to be successful. The main form of communication between home and school will be the student’s planner they will receive on the first day of school. Your child will be responsible to bring back the planner on a daily basis along with a parent signature. Please look through the planner every night for any important information (i. e. daily homework, upcoming events, etc. ). Furthermore, I will be using the Appletree App to better enhance communication between home and school. In the end, my goal is to cohesively work together as a team with enthusiasm, support and involvement to inspire a child to do their best. Thank you for your commitment to your child’s education. I am very excited about the upcoming school year. Sincerely, Ms. Nagamine
Technology in the The Appletreeclassroom! app is an awesome classroom communication app that keeps teachers and parents in sync and helps their student succeed. When downloaded onto your smartphone, you are able to view weekly and/or daily updates within the classroom. This app also allows me to send valuable student progress reports when students excel or need some help. Along with that, feel free to send me private messages regarding your child and I will be more than happy to help. (Please refer to the next page). Furthermore I like to include all parents even those that do not have access to a smart phone. You may use Appletree via text message, through email, or via goappletree. com (you may choose your means of communication in the settings section. Throughout the year students will become familiar with Google Classroom. Through Google Classroom I will be able to share information-assignments, post announcements, and engage students in questiondriven disucssion. Students will be able to access Google Classroom on the web or via android or moblie apps. Students will need a set amount of hours within the I-ready Program. Iready is a program that provides customized differentiated instruction/lessons based on the level of your child. I-ready tracks student growth and performance showing the individual student need. Students will need to complete 1 reading and 2 math lessons per week. Students will also have computer lab time during the school week to complete lessons.
