Why Do We Need Backup? • Act as 1 of the defenses in disaster recovery plan • Provide full recovery when disaster happen • Growing of business data increases more problems • Minimize the impact/risk of human error • Archival of data
Common Reason for Recovery • Server crashes Can lead to data loss • Virus infection Aggressive malicious viruses can corrupt files and disable servers • Hard drive failure Hard drives have a finite lifetime and can fail suddenly and without warning. • Human error Files can accidentally be deleted or become corrupt
What Do We Backup? Database Backup Filesystem Backup Transaction Log Backup Bare Metal Backup Virtual Machine Backup System State Backup
Backup • Data Protection Approach (Frequency, Retention and Policy) Short-Term Retention (Snapshot copy) 2 x SVC Snapshot/day Daily Full – retain 1 day Mid-Term Retention (HDS Storage) Daily Full – retain 7 days Weekly Full – retain 1 month Long-Term Retention (HCP Storage) Monthly Full – retain 1 year Yearly Full – retain 1 year

Data Center (DC) is a facility that houses IT equipment (e. g. servers, storage, backup etc) and M&E equipment (e. g. UPS, PDU, genset, chiller etc) § TNB’s DC plays important role in ensuring reliable power supply nationwide. § It supports NOC systems that provide Teleprotection and SCADA for NLDC. § Any disruption to NOC systems will have an impact to NLDC operations § TNB DC also hosts critical systems supporting TNB’s key business requirements e. g. BCRM, e. CIBS, ERMS, EHRMS, RMR, TOMS, MFFA, ESS and Email. Genset Network Equipment Fire Suppression System Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) Servers Battery Bank Storage & Backup
