1. Background SHIFTING EDUCATION GEARS Ø EMASA was founded in 1997 and has to date provided opportunities for practitioners in Education and academics- through workshops and annual conferences – to engage in relevant issues and debates with a key focus on Education Management Development (EMD). Ø In recent years it has expanded discussions to include the critical role of education data; leadership in education; the impact of the fourth industrial revolution and STEAM on Education in South Africa and globally. 3
