What is an AHSC? Academic Health Science Centres (AHSC) are: Partnerships between top universities and NHS organisations that combine excellence in research, health education and patient care. Designated by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), NHS England NHS Improvement.
About our AHSC • Bristol Health Partners is now internationally recognised as one of only eight AHSCs. • The AHSC covers the 1. 1 M population who live in BNSSG. The new partners include: § NHS Blood and Transplant § North Somerset Council § South Gloucestershire Council § Sirona care & health
Vision and purpose Build upon our excellence in healthcare provision, research and innovation, education and training • Deliver world-class health, clinical and economic outcomes • Improved prevention of illness and disease and better integration of health and care services Act as a platform for integration and joint working across the Partnership • Foster an integrated, equitable and whole-system approach to health and care • Ensure all implementation activities meaningfully involve patients and the public • Develop and promote evidence-informed care and interventions Expand our workforce and expertise • Focus on nurturing innovation in education and workforce development to train the next generation of public health, healthcare and scientific staff

Our priorities for action • • • Ensure our internationally recognised academic expertise and the excellence of our population and applied health research are fully aligned with the BNSSG system priorities Tackling population health opportunities not being supported by other parts of the system with a focus on addressing health inequalities Supporting our Health Integration Teams (HITs) Work closely with the West of England AHSN and the regional NIHR at Bristol coordination network Using our AHSC status to compete globally to recruit and retain to our local workforce Increased diversity of patient and public contributor population
Next steps • Finalising transition plans – including revised purpose, governance and membership structure • Formally welcoming new partners to the AHSC partnership • Develop a new Collaboration Agreement • New BHP AHSC governance and membership commences on 1 April 2021
