David is Kind to Saul 1 Samuel 26

David is Kind to saul 1 Samuel 26 We start today with the Salvation Poem. This version reminds us that we are part of large family of Christians who worship Jesus as Lord. Afterwards use some of the words you have sung in a prayer of praise and thanksgiving.

David in danger 1 Samuel 26: 1 -7 King Saul wanted to hurt David because he was jealous of him. So David had to hide. The people who lived near the place where David was hiding were not very friendly to David and told the king where he was. So King Saul went to look for David with a huge army of soldiers. David did not have as many as King Saul.

David in danger 1 Samuel 26: 1 -7 David sent out spies and knew Saul was nearby. David decided to go with Abishai, his servant, to find Saul. Sometimes people treat us badly. Perhaps someone in your street or school is unkind to you. You should not be unkind to them in return.

Saul asleep: 1 Samuel 26: 8 -12 It was night, it was dark and all the soldiers were asleep in the camp around Saul. David and Abishai tiptoed past them but not one woke up. Soon they were standing right next to the king. His spear was stuck in the ground at the side of him. What did Abishai say and what did David reply. David knew God was in control (verses 10 -11) David took the water jug and spear. No-one nowoke up because God had put them all into a deep sleep.

Saul asleep 1 Samuel 26: 8 -12 You should never harm someone even if they are being horrible to you. If you love Jesus you can pray for that person. It would probably be best if you let an adult help sort out the problem.

Saul says sorry 1 Samuel 26: 13 -25 David and Abishai ran off and climbed a nearby hill so they could look over to Saul’s camp. What did David shout to Abner, Saul’s army commander? What did David asked Saul.

Saul says sorry 1 Samuel 26: 13 -25 Saul knew David could have killed him but chose not to do that. What did Saul say (verse 21)? Saul said he was sorry but deep down he didn’t really mean it. After one of Saul’s men collected his spear, Saul went home. This was the last time David ever saw Saul. A little while later, Saul was injured in a battle and died.

Saul says sorry 1 Samuel 26: 13 -25 You can ask God to help you do the right thing when anyone treats you unkindly. If anyone is being unkind someone needs to tell them they are doing wrong – maybe a parent or teacher. Jesus tells us that those who love him should be kind to those who treat them badly. Children and grown ups need God’s help to do this. You need to ask God to show you the right thing to do. Maybe you could pray for someone who has been unkind to you.

David is Kind to Saul 1 Samuel 26 David didn’t do to Saul what he deserved. Jesus died on the cross so that we can be forgiven. God punished Jesus instead of punishing us, and we did not get the punishment we deserve. We should be kind to others because God is willing to forgive us.
