David Em is an American computer artist born in LA in 1952. His works

David Em is an American computer artist born in LA in 1952. His works well in the realm of virtual worlds, film, photography, sculpture, and printmaking. He studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy in Philidelphia He studied disciplinary art at Goddard college He also studied film directing at the American Film Institute in Hollywood

In 1974 -1975 David had an epiphany. His epiphany/ inspiration came from an old TV that was going to be thrown out. He saw the distortion of the old TV and realized it was extremely similar to his work David Em dealt with oil paints at the time and dealt with high lights and shadows. This piqued his interest and he started learning from all kinds of engineers dealing with electronics, filmmaking and etc. He eventually met an engineer who helped him learn how to electronically create colors on the screen

 His art was considered a mixture of space like themes with many colors

His art was considered a mixture of space like themes with many colors He actually worked with space programmers These programmers used a system known as the Xero system. The system was a hybrid graphic installation system. He solely used electronic lighting to create his pictures Most of his themes were always chaotic or space related.

David Em achieved many accomplishments during his time such as the Smithsonian, News week, Der Spiegel, and a textbook called Gardner's Art through the Ages His Art in fact has been published in the US, Europe, Japan, and LA He is labeled the first artist to have his papers preserved by the Smithsonian Institutions Archive of American Art
