WHO IS DAVID CARSON? http: //en. wikipedia. org/wiki/David_Carson_(graphic_des igner)
WHY IS DAVID WELL KNOWN? David Carson designs his work in an extremely unique way. As many graphic designers head towards an approach in where audiences can read and understand the graphic present to them, David doesn’t. David Carsons work is of an urban taste, filled with obscure letters and imagery, all collected into a tight space to give a genuine “Grunge” feel. David Carson is highly credited in the graphic design scene, as many magazines, such as Newsweek Magazine, said Carson, "changed the public face of graphic design"
HIS WORK? HERE: David Carson was hired as publisher for “Ray. Gun” Magazine, which was a alternative music and lifestyle magazine which made its first appearance in 1992. In one very well known issue of the magazine, David had come up with a far out idea of using the font “dingbat” for the article in the issue. This font was comprised of symbols, and this was to try and mask what he considered to be a boring article on Brian Ferry. However, The English version of the article was released into the back of the magazines. This is how David Carson had made a new fan base of the early 1990’s and excelled from there forward.
"Don't mistake legibility for communication. " - David
As you can see in the examples given, you can see the unique style David Carson brings to the table. He uses typography to his advantage and sprawls each of the letters look weathered and warn, giving it a rustic feel to try and associate well with the artist of figure on te front cover. In the example on the right, you can see the names of each figure mentioned in the issue.
THE INSPIRATION INTO MY OWN WORK I feel that david carson will be very inspiring towards my project designs because his style is one of my favorites in the way that it is produced with a certai distinct element which leaves audiences with the understanding notion of his work, but also in a way that they may feel they have to take a second look to get the full effect of what David carson Had produced. Not all of david carsons designs were of the previous genre, being that they have an urban and decaying punk vibe. Many of his projects would have colour and more ingenius ways of showing his individuality. This in turn will give me the ability to be a small portion to experiment with the lack and use of bold colours amongst some darker designs.
