Realistic painting and Sculpture – Following new emphasis on individuals, painters began to paint prominent citizens. These realistic portraits revealed what was distinctive about each person. Artists and sculptors used a realistic style in depicting the human body.

c. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote a different kind of handbook. He was a diplomat and had observed kings and princes in foreign courts. His work combined personal experience of politics with his knowledge of the past to offer a guide to rulers on how to gain and maintain power. He stressed the practical reality of leadership style for his age.
