David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, "I have no pleasure in them": While the sun and the light, The moon and the stars, Are not darkened, And the clouds do not return after the rain (Ecclesiastes 12: 1 -2) 5

David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, "Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!" Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah. (1 Samuel 16: 12 -13) 7

David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. (Psalm 23: 1 -3) 13

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. But my eye spared you, and I said, 'I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, for he is the Lord's anointed. '" (1 Samuel 24: 10) 16

David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: 18

David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart "There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. 19

David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart So David's anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, "As the Lord lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity. " 21

David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave your master's house and your master's wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! 22

You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife. ' 23

For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun. '" 24

David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart So David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord. " And Nathan said to David, "The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die. " (2 Samuel 12: 1 -14) 25

David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart Then the king said to Araunah, "No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing. " So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. (2 Samuel 24: 24) 27

David: A Man After God‘s Own Heart It may be too late for some of you to remember your Creator in the days of your youth, for youth is pretty much gone. But you can remember Him in your golden years. You can have faith in Him and trust Him to do as He has said. And you can certainly be spiritually minded. Thus, you too can be a person “after God’s own heart. ” 28
