So, when have we learnt about sustainability? Palm Oil: We learnt about the deforestation of Tropical Rainforests and our need to use “Sustainable Palm Oil” Rapid Population Growth: We learnt about rapid population growth and the impact that is having on our planet and need to be sustainable. Global Fashion: We learnt about the impact fashion is having on the planet and the need to be more sustainable with our fashion choices. Plastic: We learnt about the impact plastic is having on the planet and the need to be more sustainable.
What are we going to be doing for the next few lessons in Geography? As Geographers and part of the future generation, we want you to really think about what it means to you to be sustainable and think about how you can encourage others to change their behaviors and live more sustainably. Over the next few Geography lesson you are going to be creating your own sustainability campaign. You are going to select on of the areas of sustainability we’ve already covered and focus your campaign on that. So your options are: • Palm Oil • Rapid Population Growth • Global Fashion • Plastic You will then present you campaigns to the rest of the class and a prizes will be awarded for the TOP 3 campaigns and the hardest working students!
First of all you need to pick from the below list, as to how you are going to choose to present your sustainability campaign: • Poster • Speech • Information Leaflet • Social media page • Poem • Rap • Meme • Song • Newspaper report • Letter to a politician • Cartoon strip • TV/Radio Advert Success Criteria q Describe what your issue is and how it is effecting the planet. q Explain some of the challenges people might face when trying to “solve” this problem and encouraging people to change their behaviours in order to live more sustainably. q Explain what the benefits would be if this problem was solved and people changed their behaviours in order to live more sustainable. q Assess the importance of your issue and consider what would happen if nothing changed.

Rap: Create a catchy rap which will get people thinking your chosen sustainability topic. Make sure it follows the structure of rap! Information leaflet: Create a leaflet full of information to inform people about your chosen sustainability topic. Be sure to include lots of information and images. Speech: Write a speech about your chosen sustainability topic. Make sure you use lots of emotive language and be persuasive. Cartoon strip: Draw a series of cartoons to illustrate your chosen sustainability topic. You can make it as funny or as serious as you like!
