Date: 09 June 2021 Delegated Legislation - Consolidation Learning Objectives • To consolidate all that we’ve learned about Delegated Legislation and understand what the Examiner is looking for in answers. Specification Link • Statutory Instruments; Orders in Council; By-laws (Local Authority and other bodies). Reasons for delegating powers. • Parliamentary and judicial controls on delegated legislation. • Advantages and disadvantages of delegated legislation. Starter: Read through the subject content specification. • Put a tick above everything you feel confident with. • Put a dash (-) above everything you feel you need a little more help/revision with. • Put a question mark above anything you are completely unsure about.
After every exam, the Examiner releases a report outlining what students did well, what they found difficult and advice for future students. This is just as useful (if not more useful) than the mark scheme. Activity 1: 1) Just as before, read through and tick, dash or question mark the content to show confident you feel with it and identify any gaps. 2) Use the textbooks/internet (if you get signal!) to fill in any gaps TIF: Try using the English Legal System textbook to extend your knowledge and understanding Activity 2: Now we’re going to peer assess each other’s homework using this Examiner Report and your Sound/Clear/Some/Limited criteria. 1) For each question, decide whether each bullet point is Sound/Clear/Some/Limited • Relevant content • Use of authority • Quality of Written Communication (paragraphs, coherence, key terms) 2) Make notes around their answers to help them improve e. g. content, cases, statutes
