Today’s Lesson You will learn what a database is You will learn what a record and a field are
Sorting What is a database? Where might you find a database? Watch the following: https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=c. A 4 c 0 yda 8 Hs Write down the names of as many people as you can in your class, at least 15. Now, how could you group them? Hair colour? Gender? Months of birth? Have a go at putting them in to categories. This is you creating a type of a ‘database’.
Databases As a class, you make up a human database! A database is made up of records (each one of you is a record in the class database) Record Name Age Gender Hair Colour Keziah 10 Female Brown Tom 9 Male Blonde
Databases A record has several fields (each person is a record and has several fields of information stored about them) Field Record Field Name Age Field Gender Field Hair Colour Keziah 10 Female Brown Tom 9 Male Blonde
Do you have Top Trumps at home? If so, get them out and look at them. What are the ‘fields’ and what are the ‘records’? In this example, Woody is the Record and ‘humour’, ‘teamwork’, etc are the data that are stored as the fields.
