Data FFT update FFT estimates have been updated
Data
FFT - update • FFT estimates have been updated now for all student in school (including year 7). • Past performance data for last year’s Yr 11 is out • Aspire - New version of FFT designed to be used by more than just SMT. • KS 3 data will not be used for working out estimates for KS 4 after this year (since there isn’t any). • KS 3 estimates are still published on old FFT-Live but are not on FFT-Aspire which is all GCSE grades • KS 5 data is not yet on FFT Aspire
FFT aspire Replacement for FFT – Live (although still a long way to go to fully replace it) FFT Live ◦ ◦ No general staff access Geared for download & export One way – no uploading etc Hard to jump between reports e. g. estimates to pupil background ◦ Summary data includes BTEC/CN Most Shropshire schools will already have access to this as part of LA subscription. FFT aspire ◦ Nice graphics! ◦ Security Roles and access control – allows all to have appropriate access – so more can actually have access. ◦ Target setting can be done directly ◦ Graphic design allows easy links to otherwise hidden data e. g. information about pupils such as “alerts” ◦ Summary data DOESN’T include BTEC/CN
Simple view Adjust slider to set level of demand. Benchmark data is adjusted accordingly Key data is shown Use data to enter a target for this pupil (LA has not access)
Expanded view More data about pupil is shown: PP, SEN etc Also “Opps” and “Alerts” Click to show details. Link to student explorer for full history of student (all schools any FSM in 10 years, etc)
Detail of Expanded view Click to show more details of alerts • Probability of each grade, Expected progress (EP) and 50% chance point (grey bar). • Probabilities depend on school and “Challenge” set. • Based on Similar pupils (gender, birth month and prior data) Estimated grade shown Extra + or – if good chance of higher or lower
Export to excel Use this button for export of data to excel. This button only exports as pdf. Useful for pupil view (same as subject but with all subjects for one pupil) Format is tsv – need to open file from inside excel. Import dialog appears – can just click on finish.
Various summary dashboards are available. Most are more for whole school assessment (e. g. Attainment 8 data is available) Most useful to science: Subject dashboard
Subject Dashboard (For Shropshire) Red and green circles indicate significance against national data Up/down arrows indicate significance against previous years data Pupil progress is against VA (FFT) for similar students Note: progress low for A*-A for triple
Other FFT information FFT run the National Pupil Database for the DFE (since 2004) so can do “Big Data” styles analysis. Their blogs and research are interesting: For example: How valid is KS 2 data as a predictor of future performance, particularly at KS 4? When compared to 3 other datasets (CATS, Mid. Yis, and Suffolk Reading Test) we find that KS 2 data is, in each case, a better predictor of KS 4 outcomes. This conclusion holds true only if fine levels from KS 2 are used instead of whole levels. In all cases, using KS 2 data along with other assessment data provides greater accuracy than using either alone. Schools should take particular care in assessing Y 7 test outcomes for FSM and EAL pupils where it is likely that their Y 7 test score under-represents their potential. (2013)
Other FFT Info Risks of early opt in to Progress 8 (deadline June 2015) How likely are schools to fall below the floor standards if they opt for progress 8? Scatter shows FFT analysis. FFT-aspire shows indication of Progress 8 (not official value) using Pupil progress measure for Attainment 8
RAISE ONLINE Science data on RAISE remains very confusing, especially for SLT. Almost all mentions of science are for “Science (Ebacc)” which means two good sciences either core+Add or two from triple. First entry / Best entry situation – reports are for first entry apart from a summary which compares both (KS 4. FEBER) including a measure of Science (Ebacc) Science BTEC/CN contribution to Best 8 is effectively hidden, actual science data is Ebacc only. Must be either all GCSE or all BTEC. Any triple cancels out core/add and vice-versa.
What reports to look at? Progress – Value added ◦ KS 24. VARel ◦ KS 24. VAGrp ◦ KS 24. VAEBC Science VA plotted against APS compared to national (w/ 3 years of data) VA by group Comparison of VA data for Ebacc subjects Science Average Points Score (3 year trend) APS by group % achieving A*-C % (Of pupils with Ebacc eligible entry) by group Table of points scored in all subjects in school (Shows BTEC/CN) Comparison of points scores by each pupil in each subject compared to their other subjects (Shows BTEC/CN) Individual pupil data – useful for checking what data is actual being used Attainment ◦ ◦ ◦ KS 4. 1 Cand. D KS 4. 2 B KS 4. 3 D KS 4. 4 B KS 4. 21 KS 4. 20 ◦ KS 4. 7 A
RAISE problems Focus on Ebacc doesn’t fit well with science, particularly on separate attainment data or where a significant number are entered for BTEC/CN. Example, it’s hard to tell from the data if a low additional science score is because of problems with teaching etc. or if it is because better performing students are put onto Triple science. Data on groups is also suspect because BTEC/CN may have higher proportion in some of the groups, e. g. SEN. FFT-Live has some help because of a single combined score for each pupil in science but is hard to access (must export and do own analysis). FFT-aspire has good value added measure for individual Ebacc subjects but no combined score or BTEC/CN. Science leads have to work with SLT to understand data
Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 performance value added by relative attainment KS 24. VARel Relative attainment is KS 4 grade Value added is difference between average KS 4 grade of students compared to national average for students with same KS 2. Data shown for 3 years
Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 value added: performance of groups within school KS 24. VAGrp Value added for different groups No BTEC
Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 performance value added by relative attainment KS 24. VAGrp Value added compared to other Ebacc subjects No BTEC
Relative Performance Indicator – performance tables approved qualifications KS 4. 20 Difference between how well each students did compared to in other subjects (then adjusted for national difference)
Summary of performance tables approved qualification results for 2014, all pupils Straight forward comparison of attainment against national data KS 4. 21
OFSTED DATA No change yet (AFAIK) to previous advice: best data is as import as first data for inspections. So, less pressure to change from Year 10 core if that is what you are doing. Some schools are entering their own Best results and generate their own graphs.
