| Los Alamos National Laboratory | DARHT consists of 2 linear induction accelerators oriented at right angles to each other. Each electron beam is focused onto a heavy metal target that converts the beam’s kinetic energy into x-rays. Multiple x-ray pulses produce multiple view radiographic images of a fullscale non-nuclear weapon mock-up as it implodes. | Los Alamos National Laboratory | Maintenance History § Utilize graded approach to Laboratory-wide Co. M § Facility Service Request (FSR) system used for both programmatic and facility maintenance § Programmatic annual PM plan non-existent § ~80% maintenance is reactive vs proactive – “CM program” UNCLASSIFIED LA-UR-18 -27753 Operated by Los Alamos National Security, LLC for the U. | Los Alamos National Laboratory | Limp vs Run The operational tempo of the DARHT facility is driving the need for increased sustainability. As the DARHT facility is more frequently used for hydrodynamic experiments, non-dynamic experiments, research and development we will be expected to increase reliability and availability, as scheduled. If a shift in maintenance philosophy is not adopted in response to the increased operations, DARHT reliability will be at risk and lost time will quickly become apparent. The DARHT facility must shift to a predictive maintenance method and break from the hero culture that has dominated the maintenance landscape. The hero should be celebrated, but that method will not keep DARHT continuously operating for up to 10 months out of a calendar year. | Los Alamos National Laboratory | Current Maintenance § Facility specific, stand-alone Co. M developed § CMMS procurement complete for use with programmatic equipment (FSR system for facility equipment) § Asset hierarchy established § Annual PM plan in final stages § Populating material history § Revision of subcontractor responsibilities § Replacing/Upgrading EOL equipment UNCLASSIFIED LA-UR-18 -27753 Operated by Los Alamos National Security, LLC for the U. | Los Alamos National Laboratory | Future Maintenance § Controls integration into programmatic equipment and monitor via CMMS § Pd. M approach via data driven decisions (KPIs, etc. ) § Inventory Management § Schedule Management § One-stop “hub” for overall asset and facility health UNCLASSIFIED LA-UR-18 -27753 Operated by Los Alamos National Security, LLC for the U.
