Daniel six eight Pastor Brett Peterson Daniel Chapter
Daniel six & eight Pastor Brett Peterson
Daniel Chapter Six… • Remember: We found a pit with an inscription “here is where those who disobey the king are put to death. ” • This chapter is often trivialized through the many years of Sunday school lessons taught on it. • NOTE: This chapter is given as much room in scripture as the chapter on the 4 great world empires & the 70 th week!
Daniel in the critics den… • Again, the critics used to have fun with this chapter. The biggest assault was the question: Who is Darius? • Last week we discussed this at length. • Gobryas(Gubaru), the govenor of Guttium. • Daniel 9: 1 states that Darius is the son of Ahasuerus. • Xenophon, states that Ahasuerus was a Median King, meaning Darius could very well be his son as the ‘governor of Guttium.
Daniel 6 Let’s get into the text…
Daniel Chapter Eight Here we go…
Daniel 8 7 I saw him come beside the ram, and he was enraged at him; and he struck the ram and shattered his two horns, and the ram had no strength to withstand him. So he hurled him to the ground and trampled on him, and there was none to rescue the ram from his power.
Daniel 8 8 Then the male goat magnified himself exceedingly. But as soon as he was mighty, the large horn was broken; and in its place there came up four conspicuous horns toward the four winds of heaven.

8: 20 "The ram which you saw with the two horns represents the kings of Media and Persia. “Little horn”
21 "The shaggy goat represents the kingdom of Greece, and the large horn that is between his eyes is the first king. . . “Little horn”
22 "The broken horn and the four horns that arose in its place represent four kingdoms which will arise from his nation, although not with his power. “Little horn”
Daniel 8 9 Out of one of them [the 4 horns on the ram] came forth a rather small horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land.
Daniel 8 10 It grew up to the host of heaven and caused some of the host and some of the stars to fall to the earth, and it trampled them down. 11 It even magnified itself to be equal with the Commander of the host; and it removed the regular sacrifice from Him, and the place of His sanctuary was thrown down.
Daniel 8 12 And on account of transgression the host will be given over to the horn along with the regular sacrifice; and it will fling truth to the ground and perform its will and prosper.
Daniel 8 13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to that particular one who was speaking, "How long will the vision about the regular sacrifice apply, while the transgression causes horror, so as to allow both the holy place and the host to be trampled? " 14 He said to me, "For 2, 300 evenings and mornings; then the holy place will be properly restored. "

Daniel 8 The Beast: • Unites the world for a brief period • Commits an abomination of desolation • Controls people’s financial activity by putting a number on them
Daniel 8 • Are we progressing toward the day when a government can control what everyone on earth buys and sells by putting a number on them?
The Cashless Society August Bequai, “In the not-very-distant future there might be no armed robbery because there will be no cash. This is but one of the vast changes we'll be living with as we move into the cashless society of EFTS (Electronic Funds Transfer Systems) where all payments are made by inserting a plastic card into a terminal connected to a computer and traditional paperwork is obsolete. Indeed, the technology is already here. . . ”
The Cashless Society • Mobile Communications: By the year 2000, global mobile networks will enable a real time connection to anywhere, anytime. Global networks based on low earth orbiting satellites such as Teledesic and Iridium are in the works or already in operation. Choi and Whinston
The Cashless Society • Mobile phones are gearing up to be a truly global communications network via Global Services for Mobiles (GSM) system. Phones come equipped with a smart card slot to enable integrated services. For example, Schlumberger's SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) card can take care of call personalization, payment, security and other services such as linking your phone with your PC using a GSM phone. Choi and Whinston
Smart Cards • Stephen Cobb, Byte Apr. 1998, • “Think of smartcards as credit cards with brains. The same size as magnetic-stripe cards, their 8 -bit processing power almost equals the first desktop computers. Analysts have tagged smartcards as one of the top 25 technologies of 1998. But how can this be if most Americans have never even seen one?
Smart Cards • To start, be aware that smartcards are widely used all over the world. . . by 1993, French banks had issued 22 million of them. Today smartcards are common in Europe, with over 100 million pay-phone cards in France, 80 million health-insurance cards in Germany, and “electronic purse” cards in more than 20 countries Cobb, Byte, Apr. 1998
Smart Cards • [Why such applications have lagged in the U. S. ? ]. . . other explanations involve American attitudes toward public infrastructure, privacy concerns, and even religious opposition (from those who see smartcards as the “mark of the beast”. . . ) Cobb,
Smart Cards • “But we still think that there's a smartcard in your future. • Chandra Shah, vice president of Litronic, a leading provider of smartcard-enabled security solutions, “we expect smartcards to become practically universal for authenticating computer users. ” Byte cont.
Smart Cards • [Because of the] notoriously insecure data network: the Internet. Conditions are now ripe for smartcards to emerge as the answer to many concerns. Byte cont.
Smart Cards • David Brussin of Miora Systems Consulting (Los Angeles) in Byte, “Password-based protection of computing resources just doesn't cut it any more. Moving to digital IDs and tokens is just common sense”
Smart Cards • For developers, “don't underestimate the interest in smartcards of major players like Visa and Master. Card, for whom fraud is a costly motivator. On the technology end, big names like IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Sun, and Oracle all have heavy commitments to smartcards. ” Byte, Apr. 98
Smart Cards • “Smart Cards: Enabling Smart Commerce in the Digital Age, ” (Center for Research in Electronic Commerce, The University of Texas at Austin) by Soon-Yong Choi and Andrew B. Whinston • Unlike the read-only plastic card, the processing power of smart cards gives them the versatility needed to make payments, to configure your cell phones, TVs and video players and to connect to your computers via telephone, satellite or the Internet anytime, anywhere in the world. . .
Smart Cards • . . . As a smart infrastructure for mobile computing, smart card technologies will prove to be the killer application for the networked economy. ”
Smart Cards • Schlumberger • “Smart cards [will] become the universal portable transaction tool of tomorrow. ” • “Smart card technology is revolutionizing the way that organizations can interact with their customers and members - by providing a smart personalized ‘key’ to the services of the emerging digital age. ” press release, October 8, 1998
