Daniel uses the lunar calendar and so Gabriel speaks to him based on this. To fit out present dating scheme we must convert it to 7 + scheme. 62 = 69 from the 444 BC Gregorian 69 x 7 Jewish years = 483 years - seems not to match 33 AD Bur Jewish years is only 360 days So equals 476 Gregorian 365 days years Duration of 444 BC to 33 AD = 444+33 = 477 years seems to be one year extra? Not so because 1 BC to 1 AD is only 1 year So 444 BC to 33 AD is actually 476 years

Why believe in the gap: 1. It is stated as seven and sixty two and then the 70 th week showing that the first and second are consecutive. 2. The destruction of Jerusalem is 37 years after death of the Messiah. It will not fit if there is no gap. 3. The six outcomes of v 24 is not fulfilled up till even now and thus we need to wait for the 70 th week. 4. No evidence that in the middle of any period, any great ruler make a covenant with the Jews after the death of CHRIST. 5. Prophetic gaps are also found elsewhere. Example: Isa. 9: 1 -3 is Christ first coming quoted in Matt. 4: 14 -15 and then Isa. 9: 4 -5 is the battle of Armageddon.

Other views 1. For Replacement Theologians: do not accept the gap between phase 1/2 and phase 3. They therefore believe that phase 3 is already fulfilled after the death of Christ. Of course they do not necessary see the weeks as precise time and so they just adjust as they like. 2. Dallas dispensationalists firmly approve the gap call this period the “times of the Gentiles (even boldly saying that it is from Luke 21: 24)”. This is the time when God allow the gentiles to be dominant - thus from fall of Jerusalem by Babylon to when Christ comes again (or the 70 weeks of Daniel). Only then will the Jews be used again to dominate the world as Christ rules. But this is not stated in Daniel. Also even before the fall of Jerusalem, Gentiles has always been dominant not Israel. This is one reason why they argue that the partial hardening is not over yet as Daniel 70 weeks is not completed. But who says this is the “times of the gentiles”? They also do not accept 1967 as Jews taking back Jerusalem.

Dallas believes that the time of the times of the gentiles goes from the fall Babylon to when Christ returns. Quoting from the Bible Knowledge Commentary: “ ‘The times of the Gentiles’ domination over Jerusalem actually began when the Babylonians took the city and the nation into Captivity in 586 B. C. Jerusalem will again fall under Gentile domination in the Tribulation (Zech. 14: 1– 2) just before the Messiah returns to restore Jerusalem. ” Problem: What about the return from the exile the first time until 70 AD? The Jews than rule the city. In Lu. 21: 20 -24, Jesus clearly says that Gentiles will trample after the invasion and it is Titus’s invasion. But clearly, the Jews now rule Jerusalem. Yes the antichrist will rule it again but Paul clarify in Rom 11 that there is an age of the Gentiles in which there is partial hardening of the Jews and this will come to an end. Again if the age only ends when Christ comes, so what about the 144, 000 who is there before He returns? ? Best to take it as stated in Lu. 21 – Titus takes Jerusalem – Jews rules it - age of gentiles end. The rapture and God give Jerusalem again to the nations in Rev. 11 except the naos – with the 144, 000.
