Securing Unattended Equipment • CN has detailed and specific rules with respect to securing unattended equipment • When locomotives are attached: • • Application of air brakes on all locomotives in lead consist; Full application of air brakes on the entire train; Hand brake applied on the lead locomotive; All locomotive controls secured to prevent movement, and the reverser removed from the control stand; All doors and windows locked on the locomotives; Peer-to-peer verification among two crew members to ensure compliance verification All CN locomotives are also equipped with a Reset Safety Control device, which prompts full-service train brake application if it detects locomotive movement and there is no control stand response When no locomotives are attached: • • Cars cannot be left unattended without handbrakes applied and specific operating instructions are met which mitigate risk Peer-to-peer verification among two crew members to ensure compliance verification • Specific handbrake guidelines applicable reflect specific grades on territory • All CN main line crews are composed of two members 5
