Chinese New Year 15 days n Fireworks n

Chinese Celebrations n At Chinese New Year celebrations people wear red clothes, decorate with poems on red paper, and give children "lucky money" in red envelopes. Red symbolizes fire, which according to legend can drive away bad luck. The fireworks that shower the festivities are rooted in a similar ancient custom. Long ago, people in China lit bamboo stalks, believing that the crackling flames would frighten evil spirits.

Hanukkah The history of Hanukkah goes back over two thousand years and involves the holy Temple of Jerusalem. Finally, after many years of war and persecution, the Jews regained control of the Temple but it was in ruins. As they began to rebuild, they found only a small amount of oil to light the Temple lamp. It was believed that the oil would only last one or two days. But the oil lasted for eight days and nights. Hanukah celebrates this miracle.

Hora The Hora is the national dance of Israel. It is danced at weddings and barmitzvahs. The dance celebrates national strength and pride. The goal is to join people together to celebrate by being together.

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de May means the 5 th of May n People in Mexico don’t really celebrate this holiday, but in the U. S. , this holiday is celebrated to remember Mexican culture. n

El Jarabe Tapatio The Mexican Hat dance represents the nation of Mexico to the world. Two people typically dance together around one central location in the dance. Today this dance can be done for fun during Fiestas and family gatherings.
