How it Works PROBLEM SOLVING AND CREATIVITY Ø Present children with real-world problem Ø New scientific theme each year TEAMS OF STUDENTS AND MENTORS Ø Work as a team Ø Learn with adults and mentors Coach Mc. What is FLL? An international program created through a partnership between FIRST and The LEGO Group Ø INSPIRES children, ages 9 to 14, to participate in science and technology Ø ENGAGES children in playful and meaningful learning Ø PROVIDES a fun, creative, hands-on learning experience Ø CHALLENGES children to solve real-world problems using robotics Ø TEACHES children to experiment and overcome obstacles Ø BUILDS self-esteem and confidence “Turbo Builders” learning about pulleys
FLL Teams Ø APPLY math and science concepts to research, design, build and program autonomous robots Ø USE LEGO MINDSTORMS® technologies Ø GAIN hands-on experience solving real-world problems Ø Robot Game Ø Research Project Ø LEARN from and interact with adult mentors Ø WORK as a group to overcome obstacles and meet challenges Ø ENGAGE in an online community “Mindcraft” brainstorming their poster
