Cycling 101
Overview & Purpose • Goal: The goal for this course is to give students the opportunity to learn the basics of cycling, including but not limited to: – Motivation – Cycling Safety – Bike anatomy – Nutrition – Fitness – Body anatomy
Theoretical Foundation Self-Efficacy: Students will use the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to help motivate themselves to begin a cycling regimen. This will allow them to better understand the needs of their bodies and what they can do to live a healthier lifestyle. .
Procedures ● Classroom or Weekly E-Learning Environment - This course can be either taken in a Professional Development Class or in a High School Physical Education Health Class ● Class size will accommodate up to 15 students ● Equipment Required: → Bike → Safety Helmet → Gloves → Water bottles → Cycling Shoes → Safety Glasses → Heart Rate Monitor → Bike Computer → Sun block → Computer (for online meetings)

Educational Standards – High School Physical Education Class Physical Education is a required subject for all students in grades K-12. When students reach the commencement level of the learning standards for physical education, they will have the knowledge and skills to participate in a variety of healthy activities; understand appreciate the benefits of maintaining a healthful lifestyle; understand how to evaluate and access resources in their community to pursue a healthy and active life; and will be aware of the many career opportunities available in this field.
